Friends/Family:
Just wanted y'all to know that all is well here! I really only have about 3 minutes--hope to send more later. It's been amazing already, and we've only been here a few days. Today was the most overwhelming emotionally--met a man whose 10 year old daughter was shot last year from across the street by an Israeli soldier--she was going to get candy. Her dad was and remains a member of Combatants for Peace, an amazing guy. We saw the Palestinian sections tourists never see, as they're behind walls and checkpoints. And today we saw many of the holy sites in Jerusalem, which affected me much more profoundly than I would have thought. Maybe that was due to what we had already seen that day. The Holy Sepulchre--the Calvary part, actually--was something of a comfort to me, over the top with gold and crazy shiny stuff everywhere. But still I wanted to stay. And then at the Western Wall I just burst into tears--thinking of all the prayers for the peace of Jerusalem that have been made there, prayers for my family and my own life, and the fact that whatever else is true, Jesus for sure was in that building. The other thing so far that's affected me like that was the Sea of Galilee. What an amazing place.
Anyway, this is not much, I know, but the place needs to close up for the night. We are in Bethlehem for the rest of the days, except tomorrow, when I'll be spending the night in a Muslim village. Really.
I love you all and am so grateful.
LM
